Caring for Wooden Cutting Boards & Butcher Blocks
There are two steps when caring for Wooden Cutting Boards & Butcher Blocks, consisting of cleaning and sealing. To keep your cutting board in prime condition, seal it once a month with oil.
Step One: Start by cleaning your cutting board or butcher block by hand using a soft sponge or lent free towel with a dish soap. It is important not to submerge your cutting board in water. Caution the wood can eventually absorb water if submerge for long periods of time. It's best to just rinse and scrub by hand. Once rinsed clean, dry the cutting board with a lent free towel and then continue to let air dry until the board is completely dry.
Step two: To preserve your cutting board it is essential that you apply some form of oil once a month. The best forms of oil for treating your cutting board is Food grade mineral oil or coconut oil. Both of these oils are highly resistant to rancidity. If you use any other cooking oils like olive or canola, it can form bacteria and spoil. To apply the oil use a clean dry cloth to evenly spread the oil on the cutting board or butcher block. Wipe away the excess oil and then let dry for a few hours.
